BR Choice began with a $500,000 HUD Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant awarded to the City of Baton Rouge’s Office of the Mayor and its partners, including the East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority and Louisiana State University, followed by an additional $32 million implementation award.
The BR Choice initiative targets an approximately 1.6 square mile area of two adjoining neighborhoods at the heart of North Baton Rouge. We collaborate directly with community members, local government, and strategic partners to create sustainable neighborhood improvements. Our approach focuses on holistic development that addresses people, housing, and neighborhoods.
Community members, business owners, developers, investors, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies can all engage with BR Choice. There are many ways to participate, from partnership opportunities to community engagement.
BR Choice takes a long-term, place-based approach. Rather than focusing on isolated initiatives, we align investments around shared goals and community priorities to create lasting, meaningful impact.
